This is a free contest, which means that you can enter for free and without the need of paying an entry fee.

Cinemagic is an international film festival for young people based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was established 20 years ago and it has developed a worldwide reputation for excellence in children's programming and is currently the largest children's film festival in Great Britain and Ireland.

The 16-day festival includes international film screenings, big movie premieres, special guests, discussions, competitions and master classes in all aspects of filmmaking.

Objective

Submit all types of films and programmes, for children and young people from preschool through to young adult, made within the years 2008 – 2010.

Prizes

Cinemagic is a competitive festival with prizes for:

  • Best feature and best short film for a teenage audience as judged by a jury of young people aged 15 - 18
  • Best feature and best short film for a children's audience as judged by a jury of young people aged 10 - 14

Prizes of £1,000 are awarded to the directors of the best feature films and £500 to the directors of the best short films. The competition programme will include a minimum of 10 feature films and 15 short films.

Rules

  • Films made within the years 2008 – 2010 are eligible for competition.
  • Please use a separate entry form for each film submitted.
  • All films must be available in English or with English subtitles.
  • Feature films must be at least 50 minutes long and shorts must be less than 50 minutes in duration.
  • Cinemagic is interested in all types of films and programmes for children and young people from preschool through to young adult.
  • Cinemagic can screen 35 mm, Beta SP (PAL), Digi Beta and DV cam.

How to enter?

To enter, just send a DVD preview, either in English or with English subtitles, and a completed entry form to:

The entry form should be accompanied by the following:

  • A detailed synopsis of the film.
  • The biography, filmography and a recent photo of the director.
  • Photographs or transparencies of the film.
  • Press materials and posters.
  • A listing of the film's participation and awards received at any other film festivals.
  • Information on whether the film has been exhibited in the UK/Ireland/Northern Ireland previously.

Film prints (and Beta or DV tapes) accepted for the festival must arrive at the above address by 1 November 2010.
